Mold Manufacturing Industry Knowledge

With the development of the mechanical processing industry, more and more parts are manufactured by cold working molds in production, and more and more types of cold deformation molds are used. Today we can analyze for you some basic knowledge about mold steel, which is also an essential skill for mold manufacturing.

Cold volume die forging (cold heading, cold extrusion, stamping, etc.); sheet metal stamping (such as drawing, blanking, trimming, punching, etc.); material rolling (cold rolling, wheel forming, etc.). Although there are many types of cold deformation molds with different working conditions and different performance requirements, the basic working conditions are similar: that is, they all deform the metal in a cold state and bear large shear forces, pressures, bending forces, Impact and friction. Therefore, this type of mold steel should have the following basic properties:

1. High hardness and strength to ensure that it is not prone to trace plastic deformation or damage when subjected to high stress.

2. High wear resistance, which can ensure the dimensional accuracy of the mold under high wear conditions, which is more important for drawing dies and cold stamping dies.

3. Sufficient toughness so that it is not prone to peeling or collapse of the working toughness under impact load and dynamic load.

4. The heat treatment deformation should be small. Because most molds have complex cavities and precise precision, the heat treatment deformation is difficult to eliminate by grinding. In addition, some cold deformation molds should also have sufficient heat resistance.

How to rationally select cold deformation mold materials and appropriate heat treatment methods to increase the service life of the mold is the most concerned issue in production. The normal failures of cold deformation molds should be wear, trace plastic deformation and fatigue failure. However, in actual production, in addition to wear and tear failures, premature failures such as fracture, cracking, etc. are not uncommon. As we all know, the service life of cold deformation molds is a comprehensive factor; the rationality of raw material selection, the internal metallurgical quality of raw materials, the rationality of design and manufacturing processes, usage conditions and the technical level of operating workers, etc.
